With well over 800 million users worldwide LinkedIn is well and truly one of the biggest platforms on the planet. In my opinion, it’s a platform every business owner and entrepreneur should be using to grow their brand.
A new handy way to do that is the LinkedIn Newsletter.
What is a Linkedin Newsletter?
It’s a series of articles you can create and publish on a regular basis. It should concentrate on a certain topic that relates to what you do and it should cater to the needs of your audience.
At this stage it’s still being rolled out by LinkedIn but each and every user is now able to subscribe to a newsletter. Once your audience subscribes to your newsletter they will receive a notification when you post new content.
So what’s the difference between a post and a LinkedIn newsletter?
The main difference is when you publish your posts, they go onto your timeline. Your connections only discover it by scrolling through their feed or visiting your profile.
When you publish a newsletter, your subscribers get notified, which increases the chances of people seeing and consuming your content.

LinkedIn Newsletters Help Build Authority
With any business and brand one of the most important ingredients to your success is trust. Building trust is established by becoming a trusted authority in your field. I’m currently using these LinkedIn newsletters for just that purpose. They allow me to provide valuable knowledge about a topic for my audience each fortnight which builds trust and gives them something to look forward to.
LinkedIn Newsletters Expand Your Audience
LinkedIn is great at rewarding those pieces of content that people are interacting with the most. If you are creating amazing content that is driving engagement then LinkedIn will start showing it to more people. Have you ever noticed in your feed content from second or third-tier connections? This happens because some of your connections have engaged with those pieces of content and LinkedIn has shown it to a wider audience. So creating amazing content is going to allow it to be seen be more people and in theory, should expand your audience.
Newsletters Create Engagement
What I find great about creating newsletters is it allows you to refine your contact list, when setting one up it will allow you to invite people to sign up, generally speaking when sending out these invites, the people who usually sign up are the ones your message is resonating with, this will help to improve the engagement on your newsletters.
It also allows you to improve engagement on the rest of your profile, posts, videos e.t.c. This usually happens when your subscribers discover your great content via your newsletter and get curious and jump on over to your profile and consume other bits of content you have created.
Newsletters Help Boost Brand Awareness
Usually, when you’re building out your connections it’s with people who you should be able to do business with or work with in some way. Unfortunately, most of the time when you connect with someone they usually forget who you are after connecting. Publishing your own newsletter is going to help get your brand back in front of some of those people, it’s a great way to remind them about what you do, your brand and help showcase a solution or answer they may be after.
Newsletters Help Generate Leads
For any business, I’d say lead generation would be an important part of their overall strategy. At the end of the day if you are not bringing in a steady stream of leads then your business will struggle to be successful.
Creating a well-executed newsletter is a great way to generate leads for your business. It’s really important to again showcase your expertise with your audience, LinkedIn is a far more effective tool than both Facebook and Twitter at lead generation so utilise your newsletter to drive those people to your business.
So, to recap, should you create your own LinkedIn newsletter?
Yes, newsletters are a great way to keep in touch with your followers and promote new content, they also can be a great way to further develop relationships with your audience while also boosting reach. LinkedIn has always been a powerful marketing tool, and now LinkedIn marketers can take their content distribution efforts one step further by publishing newsletters.
If you have access, don’t take this feature for granted. Publish content that will help you achieve your marketing goals.
