There is absolutely no reason why you need to use every single character space for every LinkedIn post you create. Fact is: most often, people are not online to read an essay. That’s why bite-sized content often has the biggest impact.
Micro-lessons
You’re an experienced, knowledgeable, actively engaged member of your industry. That makes your mind a knowledge garden. Consider your bite-sized content as picking a single flower from your knowledge garden and giving it to your audience. That’s the beauty of making micro-lessons. Micro-lessons, or microlearning, is all about delivering small, focused pieces of content that your audience can consume quickly and easily. Micro-lessons are perfect for LinkedIn, especially when your audience’s attention span is often so short.
What makes a good micro-lesson
If you’re simply posting short facts every day, however, that’s going to quickly turn boring for your audience. Here’s what makes a good micro-lesson:
- You mix it up: Your LinkedIn feed isn’t a non-stop quickfire of micro-lessons. Make sure to embed micro-lessons into your content strategy, but don’t make them the sole output. Mix up your content and ensure you include short-form, long-form, video, and audio. A good mix of content keeps your audience engaged and interested.
- Make it micro: Micro-lessons are so powerful on LinkedIn. They’re incredibly easily digestible. Your connections can absorb your insights during a coffee break or while waiting for a meeting to start. This accessibility means your content is more likely to be engaged with, rather than scrolled past.
- Keep it high-quality: Micro-lessons help to position you as a consistent source of value. When you regularly share bite-sized nuggets of wisdom, you’re building your personal brand as an expert who’s always ready to share their knowledge.
- They’re purposefully short: Micro-lessons don’t dig into the details, but you can always follow up your short post with a longer one, later in the week, that digs into the topic you’ve mentioned. Consider structuring your micro-lesson content into “Facts of the Day” or “Quick Tips”. Keep your micro-lesson to one or two sentences, and make them snappy. You could also use your micro-lesson content to encourage engagement. You could pose a “Question of the Day” and invite your network to share their thoughts. This encourages interaction, which LinkedIn’s algorithm loves.
Think it up
Some days, I’m convinced that nothing could replace the nifty notebook. That’s how you can keep up your idea generation for your micro-lesson content. As you go about your workday, you might have a quick thought, learn a new statistic, or have a client share some new information. My tip is simple: write it down, the moment you hear it. That gives you an easy way to put together micro-lessons, and quickly pluck the most beautiful flowers from your knowledge garden for your LinkedIn audience. Before you know it, you’ll have a wealth of material for your micro-lessons.
Repurpose your content
Micro-lessons are also a great way to repurpose your content. Look at your newsletters, your blog posts, and other long-form content you’ve created. Is there a quick fact you can share, or an interesting point you can summarise into a sentence? I’m certain there is, so it’s easy to use your long-form content as a picking spot for your micro-lesson content. Break your long-form content down into a series of micro-lessons. That makes it easy for you to distil and share your expertise.
Start small and keep growing
My challenge to you is this: start small. Commit to sharing one micro-lesson on LinkedIn once a week. They don’t have to be perfect. Your authenticity is more important than the polish. See how it feels, see how your network responds, and most importantly, see how it affects your own understanding of your expertise. Micro-lessons help you continue to show up consistently and provide great value to your LinkedIn network.
