Every so often, it’s time to ask your audience a question. Thanks to LinkedIn, polls that ask smart questions help you actively grow your audience, and enhance your online visibility. Did you know? LinkedIn posts with polls can generate up to twice as much engagement as regular publications. If you’ve not yet started integrating LinkedIn polls into your regular posting schedule, it’s time to get cracking. LinkedIn polls are more than just another feature. Here’s why they should be an integral part of your LinkedIn strategy:
Supercharge your audience engagement
LinkedIn polls invite your audience to directly, and easily, engage with your content. Moreover, using a LinkedIn poll sparks conversations, interactions, and interesting discussions in your comments. When you ask questions that resonate with your network, you create an opportunity for people to share their opinions and experiences. This increases the visibility of your content and builds a sense of community around your personal brand.
Gather valuable insights
LinkedIn polls give you a quick and easy way to receive and gauge feedback from your audience. You can use a LinkedIn poll to test a new idea, analyse your audience’s views on market trends, or seek opinions on challenges in your industry. You could consider LinkedIn polls as a tool for conducting dipstick research, in real-time.
Grow your brand
Of course, you can’t simply post LinkedIn polls all day long. It’s important to intersperse them with your other types of content too. Posting a LinkedIn poll regularly, however, helps to keep your brand at the forefront of your audience’s mind. Each poll you create is an opportunity to appear in your connections’ feeds, and their connections’ feeds too. That helps to build your brand visibility. As more and more people with your polls, their activity may be seen by their own networks, enabling you to reach new audiences and potentially discover new leads.
Great ways to use LinkedIn polls
Now that you’re thinking about what to ask your audience, here are some of my favourite ways to use LinkedIn polls:
- Forecast industry trends: You can create polls that ask your audience to predict future trends in your industry. For example, you can ask your audience about their view on technologies and tools that may be on the horizon for your industry.
- Get feedback on product development: Instead of trying to figure out what your target audience wants, LinkedIn polls make it super easy to simply ask them. Use your LinkedIn polls to gather quick feedback on potential product features or improvements.
- Select new topics: As your content strategy evolves, you can ask your audience about what they’d like to hear more from you about. Alternatively, you can ask your audience which content format they prefer or most enjoy.
- Plan your live events: If you’re considering hosting a webinar or a conference, you can ask your audience about what they’d like to learn about at your event.
- Relate to your audience: Use your LinkedIn polls to embed a sense of community into your audience interactions. Think of key challenges you face, and ask your audience which ones they face too. This could help you better refine your content strategy too, because everyone loves to learn how they can solve a problem they face, without having to go the long way around to figure it out.
- Set your benchmarks: All too often, we find ourselves questioning our actions: Are we doing this in the most optimal way? Why do my administrative tasks take so long? Is it like this for other people? You can use your LinkedIn polls to conduct quick industry benchmarks, giving your audience valuable insights, while you get to learn from them, and positioning your brand as a knowledge leader.
Set your LinkedIn polls up for success
First and foremost, keep your questions concise and straightforward, with limited answer options to maintain focus and encourage participation. Timing is also important. I recommend you run your LinkedIn poll for about a week to get the maximum reward and largest level of insights. When your audience participates in your poll, actively engage with your respondents by thanking them for their participation and starting discussions in the comments section. After your LinkedIn poll closes, don’t let the conversation end there. Dig into your LinkedIn poll analytics, responses, and comments. From there, you can create follow-up content, like an infographic, blog post, or video, further extending the value of the initial poll.
